It’s because you care about your students. You want to reach them and help them grow into lifelong learners and productive citizens.
There’s only so much time in the day.
You want to learn the latest edtech. You want to have the most engaging classroom. You want your admin to be wowed by you. You want your students to learn….
But time. There’s never enough of it, and you have a million jobs in one title.
I began my teaching journey 20 years ago full of dreams that I’d change the world. Then reality smacked me in the face, and I realized that staying a day ahead of my students was all I could do.
Around year five, when the hamster wheel slowed to NASCAR third place speed, I found some time to make creative resources for my students. I was proud that they were as excited as teenagers can be (so not complaining) to come to class. Other teachers told me they heard students talking about my classes in the hallway. My students were learning because they were engaged.
Literally, education is constantly changing. The standards changed. They changed again. My subjects changed. My classroom changed. My school changed. Teacher evaluation systems changed. I could keep going….
If you’re going to be the best teacher for your students, you have to keep learning.
But where’s the time?
