1. Generate Lesson Summaries Faster
Save prep time by using Notebook LM to create student-friendly summaries of textbook chapters, articles, or curriculum documents. These can be repurposed as guided notes, warm-ups, or study guides.
Try making one of these for each unit you teach by uploading the state standards or the College Board Course and Exam Description (CED) for the unit, the textbook chapters, and relevant Youtube Videos.
Use the chat to ask it to generate complete lessons or components of lessons for you.
2. Support Differentiated Instruction
Offering content in multiple formats (text, video, and audio) helps meet the diverse needs of students, including English language learners and those with learning differences.
You can carry this a step further by asking Notebook LM to differentiate a lesson in the chat, like the one below.

2 Ways to Boost Student Learing with Notebook LM
There are soooo many ways students can use Notebook LM to help them streamline learning content. Here’s the problem: Notebook LM is powered by Gemini–it’s part of G-Suit. Gemini has an 18 and over rule for use. There are special exceptions for Google for Education schools. BUT…chances are, your school doesn’t fall into that category.
Right now, mine doesn’t. So I’ve been using it in class on workdays with my students (I especially give my AP Modern World History students those [workdays to annotate, read, and remediate]). I’ve also been teachig my seniors to use it in the following ways (most of them are or will be turning 18 soon–they’ll be going off to college or the military or the workforce). Notebook LM is a study tool that will give them an advantage in the emerging economy.
Here’s how I teach them to use it:
4. Summarize Readings and Research
Students can upload class readings or research sources and use Notebook LM to generate summaries, helping them grasp key ideas and organize information effectively.
I have a group of students who are struggling with AP Chemistry. They’re creating a Notebook LM for each unit in their course. They started making one after school for Unit 7: Equilibrium. They uploaded Unit 7 of the AP Chemistry Course and Exam Description from College Board. They also linked to all of the Khan Academy videos over the unit and PDFs of their textbook chapter for Unit 7.
They’re using the material to target their review. They had Notebook LM generate a briefing and a study guide. They also prompted LM in the chat to annotate the CED with definitions and examples for each piece of Essential Knowledge.
They’re using the chat feature to generate practice problems for them. And…bonus…it’s Google–so they can share with each other.
5. Create Personalized Study Podcasts
Instead of rereading notes, students can have Notebook LM convert study materials into an audio format, allowing them to review content on the go.
